If you’re a mom, then you know how all consuming raising kids can be! It doesn’t matter if you have babies or teenagers or everything in between, mom life is so very full. If you aren’t intentional about your health as a mom, being a healthy mom just won’t happen!

Motherhood is full of blessings, struggles, sweetness, prayer, and basically your whole heart right? It’s all too easy to give all of yourself to caring for your child’s needs and let yourself kind of go untended for long periods of time.

This is not how it should be for mothers! I have a huge heart for moms (and wives) to truly THRIVE in these roles.

One aspect of thriving as a mom is to feel physically good in order to do all the things motherhood demands! I want moms to be healthy and strong.  Healthy and strong in every way- emotionally, spiritually, AND physically.

For this, we are going to look at powerful ways moms can stay physically healthy. There are definitely ways moms can stay healthy even in the craziness of raising kids!

If Mom stays healthy, then

  • she DOESN’T GET SICK often which helps everyone for sure!

In order to stay physically healthy, the BIGGEST area to give attention is NUTRITION.

Meal planning is such an effective way for moms to stay healthy!

If you find yourself going through a drive thru or ordering take-out because you didn’t think through what you were going to eat until it’s time to eat, then you need to embrace the huge benefits of meal planning!

It’s as simple as taking a look at the schedule for the week. Note when you will be home and when you will be out at different activities around meal times.

Then make a plan for meals that week BASED on your SCHEDULE!

If you know you will be out and about at dinner time, instead of the drive thru foods, plan a meal that you can make ahead of time to take with you. For instance, it doesn’t take long to make sandwiches, or tacos and just wrap them in foil and put in a cooler to keep warm!

For the nights you are at home, just plan meals that are healthy for those nights. When you have a plan, you are super likely to just walk in the kitchen and make those items without having to stand in front of the pantry or fridge thinking about what you will eat.

Once you have jotted down your meal plans, just make a grocery list for the week and use curbside pickup!

When you plan healthy meals to eat, you take the guess work out of meal times and you actually eat healthy instead of just grabbing at whatever whim you are having right then.

2ND WAY MOMS CAN STAY HEALTHY- MASTER HEALTHY MOM SNACKS!

When I’m taking my boys on any kind of outing, I always take snacks because they eat ALL the TIME! Well, naturally I get hungry too, and if I have my kids’ snacks sitting there, I will likely eat some!

And let’s face it. Kid snacks are not always the best choice for grown women.

It is such an easy mom hack, to just keep your purse and car stocked with some healthy mom snacks! When hunger strikes, you grab a healthy snack and voila!

{My top 3 favorite healthy snacks for moms:}

1. These delicious ENERGY BALLS (I try to keep a batch of these made all the time- so satisfying and full of healthy fat, fiber, antioxidants, and protein!)

The recipe for these energy balls from gimmesomeoven.com is so easy: Just stir these ingredients and roll into balls. I keep in the fridge but they can be stored in an air tight container on the counter as well!

I keep all of these ingredients on hand so I can always make them as needed. They are so delicious!

2.  Another one of my go-to healthy snacks for moms are HIGH QUALITY BARS that are easy to grab and go. You need to be a label reader before you grab just any bar. Some have loads of calories, sugars, and chemicals while claiming to be healthy.

My first choice of bars are Arbonne’s vegan protein bars (iced lemon is my absolute favorite) because they totally satisfy and are full of healthy goodness! These arbonne protein bars have 10 grams of vegan protein derived from brown rice and peas, 6 grams of sugars from natural sweeteners, and have all ingredients you can read while being a great calorie amount for a snack- just 190! I keep some in my purse for any snack times on the go!

A final bar to mention is Annie’s organic protein bars! They are smaller protein bars but make a delicious snack! These are kid sized (as they are marketed for kids) but I find them filling and perfect for a mom snack too!

3. My 3rd favorite on the go healthy snack for moms is simply an apple (or other fruit of choice) with a few nuts such as walnuts, cashews, almonds, or peanuts. Easy, healthy, and filling!

This is super common when parents take their kids to a restaurant to eat a meal! Kids inevitably don’t eat all their fries and it somehow feels justified for Mom to reach over and eat them because we paid for this meal right?

Just let it go! Those leftovers of your kids’ meals PLUS your meal add up to too much for Mom.

I just alluded to this in the step above, but there is a difference between tasting something to make sure the seasonings are right and just taking in needless bites!

I do this at home like crazy if I’m not mindful! I’ll be making them a meal or a snack and I’ll take a bite here and eat some there until I’ve eaten a big ole serving of calories when I could just wait until we all eat!

5TH WAY MOMS CAN STAY HEALTHY- THE PROTEIN SHAKE HACK!

The protein shake hack may be my favorite of them all! There are times you need to pack a lunch for your kids when you are going on an outing. And once you make their lunches, it’s often just grab-the-easiest-thing-for-mom so you can finally get out the door.

The easiest thing may be full of gluten, additives, sugar, etc. If you simply take a protein shake, you have a complete meal that is super healthy for you while being easy to make on the go!

In fact, I use this hack when I’m making a meal that I want my boys to eat but that I don’t need to be eating, such as pizza or chicken pot pie! I simply make them dinner and I drink my shake right there with them!

My recommendation for a protein powder that I can stand behind is Arbonne’s vegan protein. I love to mix it with frozen fruits and almond milk! You can put it in a stainless steel tumbler where it stays cold for hours OR it tastes great mixed with just water!

I know that many moms feel there is hardly time in the day for taking a shower much less exercising! But moms simply have to exercise to be able to stay healthy.

It just takes a little creativity but it is definitely possible to get moving and strengthening your muscles. If you make exercise a priority now, it sets you up to have more energy and be in shape for all the mom tasks at hand!

I feel 100% better all the way around when I consistently exercise!

8TH WAY MOMS CAN STAY HEALTHY- PERFECT A BEDTIME ROUTINE!

Getting a proper amount of sleep is so very important! Moms can sometimes feel that once kids are in bed, it’s the only time to get anything done.

Sure, but it is best to have a cut off time. There will always be things to do! Powering down by a certain time is wise for a mother’s overall health.

I make sure I’m in the bed by 10pm reading and my light is out by 10:30. This routine allows me consistent sleep each night and I’m rested enough to be able to exercise at 6am each day, which helps me stay healthy as well.

Find your perfect bedtime (which may be way earlier than mine!) and start implementing it every night. Your body will thank you!
