fast and easy ways to boost immunity for busy moms

Let’s talk about this, because oh boy- it is NO good when Mom gets sick. Eeek. Not good at all.

The last time I got sick, I think my husband drove 200 miles in one day taking kids to and fro instead of sharing that task with me! And who knows what they all ate and at what times!!

As moms we owe it to ourselves and our family to do all that we can to stay well!

(  HERE.)

If Mom is healthy and strong, then

  • She has the stamina to take care of her family!
  • The energy to keep the household running!!
  • The ability to do all the mom things!!

But if you ask the moms you know what they do to proactively boost their immunity, so many say something to the effect of…….”umm nothing except hoping I stay well!”

Why is that? Well if you’re a mom- you know why!

(Yes there ARE those moms who are passionate about this and are great at doing all kinds of things to stay well and to get well if they do get sick -so I’m not speaking to that mom right now.)

I’m speaking to the mom who knows taking good care of herself is important BUT…

Oh the “BUTs” right?

I’m talking to the moms who don’t feel they have the time to sit down and try to figure out the world of health!

Many moms don’t know where to start on how to boost their immunity and don’t even think enough personal thoughts in the day to find out!

For me, for the last 20 years, I’ve LOVED learning about health when I can –in the crazy!

So I want to share 3 hugely effective ways I’ve found to boost immunity!

These are immune boosting things moms can do QUICKLY and EASILY in the morning.

If you aren’t best friends with elderberry syrup yet, today is the day!

Elderberries have quite a resume of helpful benefits for us to consume! The superfood berries are packed with antioxidants and vitamins which help with all kinds of things from inflammation to fighting cold and flu viruses.

I appreciate that elderberry syrup is something I can simply take a teaspoon of everyday! When I do, I’m giving my body antioxidants needed to strengthen my immune system.

I can’t tell you how many times I have felt some type of cold or flu-like virus coming on- a tickle in my throat, runny nose, a small cough- and I step up taking the elderberry syrup to 3 times a day. t

Then BOOM. The sick symptoms just disappear before they ever get started.

If you have looked at buying elderberry syrup, you see that it costs about $15 for a 4 ounce bottle. That adds up quickly if you take a teaspoon everyday!

So I recommend just making your own. It is easy peasy and costs considerably less.

I just buy these ORGANIC DRIED ELDERBERRIES by the pound. With our family of 7, one pound easily gets us through 3 to 4 months. Smaller families can use a pound of elderberries a whole lot longer!

Anyway, I just make elderberry syrup as needed and then take it every morning. If I feel any symptoms of ANY kind coming on, I take the syrup more often for a couple of days.

Simple and SO DOABLE!

Also, no side effects. Can you see why I love elderberry syrup for immune boosting benefits?

Here is my favorite recipe posted by wellnessmama:

3½ cups water
2/3 cup dried elderberries (or 1 1/3 cups fresh or frozen)
2 TBSP ginger (grated or thinly sliced)
1 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp ground cloves
1 cup raw honey

Pour the water into a medium saucepan and add the elderberries, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves.
Bring to a boil and then cover and reduce to a simmer for about 45 minutes to 1 hour until the liquid has reduced by almost half.
Remove from heat and let cool until it is cool enough to be handled.

Mash the berries carefully using a spoon or other flat utensil.
Pour through a strainer into a glass jar or bowl.
Discard the elderberries and let the liquid cool to lukewarm.
When it is no longer hot, add the honey and stir well.
When the honey is well mixed into the elderberry mixture, pour the syrup into a mason jar or 16 ounce glass bottle of some kind.

Voila! Elderberry syrup is made!

You might be thinking that probiotics only help digestion issues so why am I saying a probiotic helps boost immunity?

Because probiotics DO help balance the friendly bacteria in your digestive system, but that is not all! So many studies have been done of children and adults that show a GOOD probiotic can not only inhibit the growth of harmful gut bacteria, but in so doing, GOOD probiotics have been shown to promote the production of natural antibodies in the body.

We have immune cells in our body: IgA-producing cells, T lymphocytes and natural killer cells. QUALITY probiotics have shown in tests to promote and boost the production of these important immune cells.

So this one is a no-brainer with MANY BENEFITS once again!

Notice that I am emphasizing good and quality probiotics because there is a wide range out there. And QUALITY MATTERS with probiotics! There are so many probiotics that are not strong enough to survive stomach acid and therefore do absolutely nothing beneficial in the body.

I will recommend what I consider to be the BEST probiotic out there. (I know there are other good choices but this is one I can CONFIDENTLY stand behind). ARBONNE’S GUTHEALTH DIGESTION AND MICROBIOME SUPPORT!

It’s a powerful probiotic- delivering 3 billion CFU, a prebiotic, and digestive enzymes all in one easy packet that you add to a shot of juice in the morning! (I don’t like it with plain water so note that my PRO TIP is adding it to super small amount of juice-yay!)

Arbonne’s blend of probiotics and prebiotics is beneficial because the PREbiotics help the PRObiotics survive the harsh conditions of the digestive tract for longer so they make it all the way to the gut to do their magic. Arbonne’s GutHealth really is the best!! Read more about it HERE.

In the morning, a busy mom can QUICKLY take a quality probiotic and enjoy the IMMUNE BOOSTING BENEFITS among many others!

#3- Some Vigorous IMMUNE BOOSTING Vitamin C!

boost immunity for tired moms

Vitamin C is quite the super-star when it comes to BOOSTING IMMUNITY! Actually vitamin C is a super-star for many things that matter to moms!

Did you know that Vitamin C builds collagen in the skin? That’s huge and needed as we may be starting to see some lines and such in the mirror. But I digress…

Vitamin C to BOOST the IMMUNE SYSTEM? Yes a million times YES!!

  • Vitamin C helps encourage the production of white blood cells, and we need that because white blood cells are the cells that protect your body against infection.
  • Vitamin C is also a powerful ANTIOXIDANT which means it protects cells from harmful molecules called free radicals. This gives your body many defenses against all kinds of health problems.
  • While Vitamin C transports to the skin building collagen, its antioxidant power also helps to strengthen the skin’s barriers which provides more defense against sickness. Pretty cool.

So yes, you can get this special vitamin from eating many fruits and vegetables. But again I’m talking to busy moms here -and mastering the perfect-healthy-diet-of-consistent-fruits-and-vegetables is not usually where we shine.

That’s why I’m a firm believer in taking supplements!  Taking a supplement covers you on those good eating days AND on the days when you don’t even know what you’ve eaten -much less if it’s been a beautiful assortment of fruits and veggies!

Enter my favorite Vitamin C supplement: EMERGEN-C IMMUNE PLUS VITMAMIN D AND ZINC!!

This supplement is fabulous to me because:

  • it delivers 1000mg of Vitamin C PLUS Vitamin D and Zinc! These 3 together are a powerhouse for building immunity!
  • it also has 15 other vitamins and minerals including B12 (energy booster) and manganese!
  • it is a tasty packet of powder that you add to water! I like that better than pills and I just drink the “super orange” flavor like an orange juice to start the day!
  • it has NO artificial flavors or sweeteners
  • most grocery stores and pharmacies stock it, so it’s easy to get quickly. (I stock up on it at Costco)

So definitely include a Vitamin C supplement to your day to boost your immunity!
